Peerless Distilling Revives Old Henderson Brand in Louisville
Peerless Distilling, a whiskey distillery originally based in Henderson County, Kentucky and defunct for almost a century, is set for a rebirth in Louisville. Should all go according to plan, Corky Taylor and his son Carson, descendants of Peerless owner Henry Kraver, will open the doors on their new distillery in Spring 2014.
The original Henderson County Peerless Distillery was one of many Kentucky whiskey-makers put out of business by Prohibition, while the Louisville-based Peerless Distillery is a prime example of the way the modern whiskey boom is reshaping the Bluegrass State. In the Derby City alone, Peerless joins the Angel’s Envy distillery as a project under development, along with the currently open Evan Williams distillery.
Like many micro-distillery start-ups, Peerless plans to start production with the “clear stuff,” in this case moonshine. Down the line, the Taylors intend to release a four year old Peerless bourbon, as well as a six to eight year old Kraver bourbon.
