Barrel Craft Spirits Unveils Ultra-Aged, Wine-Finished Whiskey

Barrell Craft Spirits (BCS) is best known for the talented barrel selection and blending of the craft strength, sourced bourbon that go into their Barrell Bourbon bottlings, as well as for their transparency. However, they have ventured into rye, American whiskey and even rum before, and now they are delving back into the middle type for their latest release.

BCS 18 Year Old Whisky Finished in Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauternes is part of the Blender’s Black series, and in this instance brings together18-year Kentucky whiskey finished in Cabernet Sauvignon barrels and Canadian whiskies aged 23 to 25 years finished in Sauternes barrels. “Kentucky whiskey” usually refers to a whiskey made from a bourbon mash, but aged in used barrels instead of new oak, with Early Times being the most prominent example. In this instance it could mean that typical definition or something else. With the Canadian whiskies added for good measure, the result can be called a hybrid (i.e. mixing of two separate whiskey categories).

The resulting whisky is bottled at cask strength of 125.24 proof and available for $199.99 a bottle.
