Virginia Distilling Company Unveils Split Barrel Project

Virginia Distillery Co. has introduced its new Split Barrel Project. The inaugural release is named Project #1.

Split Barrel is a new hybrid release intended to combine the popular and familiar characteristics of Kentucky Straight Bourbon with the layered, nuanced character of American Single Malt. Virginia Distilling Company is especially well-placed to create such a hybrid, as its original expressions were hybrids of Scottish whisky with their in-house single malt whiskey. Project #1 is a 50/50 blend of Bourbon from Bardstown, KY, sourced from Bardstown Bourbon Company, and American Single Malt from Virginia Distillery Co. The whiskeys in question are a four-year-old Kentucky Bourbon, made from a mash bill of 75% corn, 15% rye, and 10% malted barley, with five-year-old Virginia Distillery Co. American Single Malt, crafted from 100% malted barley and aged exclusively in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels.

The whiskey is bottled at 90 proof and priced at $45.

“The Split Barrel Project is unlike anything else on a back bar or retail shelf,” said Gareth Moore, CEO of Virginia Distillery Co. “We’re creating a gateway into American Single Malt by meeting bourbon drinkers where they are, while still showcasing the depth and character that defines our whisky. It’s a bold step forward in growing the category.”

The Split Barrel Project #1 (Bardstown) will be available beginning May 2026 in limited quantities online at shop.vadistillery.com and through select retailers nationwide.
