Catoctin Creek to Expand Operations
By Jake Emen
Virginia-based distillery Catoctin Creek is getting ready to quadruple their operations. With the acquisition of a new 300-gallon Kothe still, as well as the space to house it in a newly acquired building in Purcellville, Virginia, the nearly 4-year-old distillery is massively increasing their capabilities, which previously included just a 100 gallon Kothe still.
The new facility, built in 1921 and known as the Sam Case Building, will also triple their total floor space. “We initially looked at it and saw all this gorgeous unpainted brick, large windows and high ceilings and thought it would make a perfect distillery,” said Scott Harris, founder of Catoctin Creek.
“We are very excited to have Catoctin Creek Distillery on Main Street in Purcellville,” said Purcellville Mayor Bob Lazaro.
The building will receive a half-million dollar renovation, outfitting it with everything from a new tasting room to solar energy collectors. Construction work will begin in early 2013, and the move should be completed to the new facility by summer 2013.
Catoctin Creek Distilling Company is the first distillery in Loudon County, Virginia since prohibition. They make a number of different spirits, including their Organic Roundstone Rye whiskey. Their 515 private label whiskey is only available at the W Hotel and J&G Steakhouse in Washington D.C.
