Angel’s Envy Targeted In Deceptive Whiskey Lawsuit
By Richard Thomas
The latest lawsuit against a whiskey bottler for deceptive marketing and labeling practices has targeted Louisville, Kentucky’s Angel’s Envy, according to The Lexington Herald-Leader.
The suit against Louisville Distilling Co., the parent company of Angel’s Envy, was one of two filed by Mario Aliano and Due Fratelli, Inc. and Zimmerman Law Offices P.C. in late October 2014. They also sued New Jersey-based Proximo Spirits Inc. for its role in Tincup American Whiskey, and this pair of suits came only three weeks after the same pairing sued Tito’s Handmade Vodka.
Zimmerman Law Offices is also involved in one of the lawsuits directed against Iowa whiskey bottler Templeton Rye. Two of the three lawsuits against Templeton Rye have moved to mediation and will likely end in a settlement.
In the Angel’s Envy lawsuit, the plaintiffs allege the company’s rye whiskey is labeled as “unique” and a “small batch,” but is actually made and aged in bulk in at the MGP distillery in Indiana. The Angel’s Envy lawsuit was moved from Cook County Court to the U.S. District Court in Chicago on January 27, 2015.
