California’s St. George’s Spirits Ready With Lot 23 Single Malt
St. George’s Spirits is an example of both craft whiskey before there was craft whiskey and a forerunner of the American Single Malt scene. They have announced the upcoming release of the 23rd lot of their single malt whiskey, which points directly at both of those facts.
To create this year’s blend, head distiller/blender, Dave Smith selected 26 distinctive casks from our whiskey library, incorporating Kentucky bourbon barrels, apple brandy casks, French oak casks, and California Sauternes-style and Port casks. We sourced from barrels ranging from four and a half years old to the oldest single cask, twelve years old. This blend also includes cask blends dating back nineteen years.
So, although Lot 23 technically has an age statement of just 4 1/2 years, because these things are always measured by the youngest whiskey in the batching, it has some of the oldest American Single Malt one is going to find anywhere in the bottle.
Retail data predicts one should expect to pay about $110 per bottle for Lot 23, which will be available at the end of the month at the distillery (one bottle per person) and with selected retailers.
