Eight Shires Distillery Marks Ten Years Of Living History And Whiskey
8 Shires Distillery is excited to announce its Year Long 10th Anniversary Celebration. It officially begins on the Fourth of July 2024 and continues to July 2025 as we prepare for the United States’ Semiquincentennial.
The celebration will be a yearlong series of events, collaborations, and presentations by the staff of 8 Shires designed to educate the public and reach out to like-minded citizens and businesses of the Historic Triangle (Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown). Highlighting the re-release of their historically inspired, museum certified, “Jamestown 1608 Single Malt Whiskey”. Attendees can expect great stories, amazing historical content, fine spirits, and networking opportunities.
The “Jamestown 1608 Single Malt” is the crown jewel of 8 Shires’ historical line of spirits. Made from custom stills recreated from the originals brought to the New World by the Jamestown Settlers. Discovered by Jamestown Rediscovery Project’s team of archaeologists and fabricated by Corning Glass, these glass alembic stills operate just as their forebears did, and have produced not only an amazingly period-accurate spirit but one that is remarkably smooth. “1608”‘s most interesting element may be the water used to make it. Collected from “James Fort’s First Well”, by the Jamestown Rediscovery Project in 2009 this water was gifted to 8 Shires Distillery. This first well dug in Jamestown was the one to provide the water used to make their Single Malt. This amazing spirit is available to taste and buy online and at 8 Shires’ Tasting Room in Williamsburg, Virginia.
8 Shires General Manager, Tucker Casanova, had this to say, “This celebration is a wonderful opportunity for 8 Shires to lose its reputation as ‘Williamsburg’s Best Kept Secret’ and to reintroduce itself to the people and history of Williamsburg, Virginia, and beyond!”
8 Shires has been a proud member of the Williamsburg community for ten years. A winner of ‘Best of the Coast’ as well as a celebrated recipient of ‘The Barley Corn Awards’, ‘Los Angeles International Spirits Competition’, ‘San Francisco World Spirits Competition’, ‘New York International Spirits Competition’, and ‘The American Distilling Institute’. They are honored by all the recognition and accolades they have received. This year’s celebration will allow them to share their fine spirits and love of history with their fellow Virginians and guests.
8 Shires Distillery is located in Williamsburg, Virginia at 7218 Merrimac Trail, Williamsburg, VA 23185 and is open 1PM-7PM Tuesday through Saturday with tours going on the hour until 6PM.
