Indiana’s Starlight Distillery Releases 10 Year Old Mizunara Finished Bourbon

Starlight Distillery has released its 10-Year Miznunara Reserve—the oldest bourbon finished in Mizunara they have made to date.

The bourbon is a de facto single barrel, as it is made from one singular Mizunara cask, with a production run of only 250 bottles total. The online lottery for 200 of those bottles has already come and gone, but the remaining 50 will be on sale at the distillery starting Saturday, September 12.

This whiskey was made using a 60% corn and 20% rye mash bill with sweet mashing, and then double distilled in a Vendome copper pot. It was then aged for 10 years in new white oak before receiving the Mizunara cask finish, with a barrel entry proof of betweeen 108 and 116 (the Mizunara cask drew on more than one barrel for a full fill). The finished bourbon was bottled at cask strength, 110 proof.

“This is the oldest bourbon we’ve ever finished in Mizunara to date, and every moment in that cask shows. Ten years of patience, our family’s farm, and a cask you can’t rush — this release is everything Starlight stands for in one bottle, it’s not simply another 10-year-old bourbon, but a statement of legacy for our family,” said Christian Huber.
