Old Overholt Brings Back Its 11 Year Old Rye

One reason Jim Beam supplanted Jack Daniel’s as the biggest selling American Whiskey is that when we say “Jim Beam,” we are not talking about just the Jim Beam brand, but everything Jim Beam Distilling makes. Growth in all the brands made by the company, from Beam to Knob Creek to Legent, has contributed to that overall picture. In turn, that growth has come because the company has gradually and systematically built up every brand in the portfolio, brands like Old Overholt.

Old Overholt began life in the early 19th Century and was a Pennsylvania classic until the Great Whiskey Bust brought it to Beam’s home base in Clermont, Kentucky. For decades, it endured as a young straight rye, but in recent years Beam has been developing the brand and restoring some of its legacy as the classic rye label. An example is in the new batch of Old Overholt Extra Aged Cask Strength 11 Year Old Rye that just dropped. The fourth annual release of this quite mature expression, it is coming out this year at 125.6 proof and priced at $110 per bottle.
