Lexington Brewing & Distilling Unveils Toasted Barrel Stout
By Richard Thomas
Lexington Brewing & Distilling drew on their local roots in the Kentucky Bluegrass to fashion their Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale. They may have been the first to do a bourbon barrel ale (circa 2006), but they were not the pioneers of bourbon barrel beer generally. Most brewers have stuck to the original model for this category, dating back to 1992, which is the age stout in bourbon barrels.
Now Lexington Brewing joins that club with its new seasonal release, Bourbon Barrel Toasted Stout. The core stout is made with Base Malt, Munich, Dark Crystal, Roasted Barley, Chocolate Malt, Black Malt, Flaked Oats and Delta and Centennial hops. Because Lexington Brewing and Distilling is the only brewstillery on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, they have their own in-house stock of bourbon barrels to draw on. That isn’t just vertical integration, but ensures the brewery gets high quality bourbon barrels to use in all their bourbon barrel beers.
Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Toasted Stout is 10% ABV and comes in bottles in a 4 pack. The MSRP is $15.99.
